On the 18th of August, Simon Rains will be taking part in Ironman Copenhagen to gain awareness for the Nayamba Trust and to raise funds for the school.
As you may know, Simon was a family doctor at the Limes Surgery. Now at the age of 64, he is attempting an Ironman consisting of a 2.4 mile swim in open water, followed by a 112 mile cycle course in the hills to the north of Copenhagen, followed by a 26.2 mile marathon around the streets of the city.
Simon visited Nayamba school in 2018 to help introduce vision and hearing checks, teach first aid and to learn about the health needs of the school.
Kim, his wife, and our health visitor at the surgery until 2015, is now a leader in the Monthly Bags project and the empowerment of girls programmes.
Simon has just launched his fundraising this month and is hoping to raise £5000 to meet the health needs, both physical and mental, of the children, as well as to help fund the nutritional support and to improve the access of the school to local health agencies.
